What is the best AI teammate for an agency's client channels in Slack?

There is no single best AI teammate for an agency's client Slack channels. Slack AI wins catch-up on Pro. Lindy and Viktor win work across connected apps. Claude Tag wins on Team or Enterprise seats, and only after an admin turns it on in Slack Connect. Pick by the job in the shared channel: catch-up, work across apps, or a draft a person still has to send.

How an agency should pick

An AI teammate for an agency's client Slack channel is a hire invited into the Slack Connect channel the client can already see. Best is the one that matches the job: catching up on a dropped thread, doing work across connected apps, tagging an assistant you already pay for, or drafting a reply a person still has to send.

Client work usually sits in a Slack Connect channel. Shared channels sit on paid Slack plans on both sides; the Free plan only allows one-to-one external DMs. Pro is $7.25 per user per month billed annually, or $8.75 billed monthly, as of 13 October 2026. Slack has no native owner on a thread, so a 9pm ask can sit while three people each assume someone else replied. People in that channel can see messages from bots and apps.

Start with what you already pay for. Slackbot is bundled in Business+. Claude Tag is usage-billed on Team and Enterprise, with no extra Slack seat, and it stays off in Slack Connect until an admin turns it on. If the leak is tickets and SLAs, that is a helpdesk, not this list. Pylon, Thena, and ClearFeed win those rows. Priced options for that job are on the AI tools roundup for agency client Slack.

The five teammates

Five products that can sit in Slack as a teammate. Concrete is last because it is ours.

  • Slackbot. Native conversation summaries ship with Pro. Slackbot, Slack's personal AI agent, ships with Business+ and Enterprise+; Business+ caps it at 15 messages per member per week. Slack's page calls it an AI teammate. Slackbot in Channels is in early pilot as of 13 October 2026.
  • Lindy. Lindy is a Slack-native teammate with 1,500+ integrations. Anything with outside impact waits for approval, and Always allow exists. Setup docs say it works in DMs and shared channels, and keeps answers public-safe there. Team starts at $29.99 per user per month for 3,000 credits; every active user is billed.
  • Viktor. Viktor is a Slack-native agent billed per workspace, from $50 per month for 20,000 credits, with 3,200+ integrations and no per-seat charge. Unused plan credits roll over one month. Sensitive actions wait for an approval button in Slack, unless the team loosens that gate.
  • Claude Tag. Claude Tag puts @Claude in Slack on Team and Enterprise, in public beta. Channel work is usage-billed, with no extra Slack seat. Default in Slack Connect is Restrict: it does not answer. An admin can set Channel only. Respond automatically is on by default.
  • Concrete. Concrete is an AI employee that works in existing Slack channels. Drafts land as Send / Edit / Skip cards; there is no auto-send mode. Follow-ups survive reboots, and a person's verdicts become written rules. It is in design-partner preview. The longer thesis is on the vision page.

What each one costs (October 2026)

Every figure below is from the vendor's own pricing page, read 13 October 2026. Quote-only stays quote-only. Concrete has no public price. For a shop of ten, per-seat teammates bill ten times; a workspace bill does not.

The caveat that should decide the shortlist

The failure mode agencies name first is an AI that talks to the client unsupervised. One wrong reply can cost the account. Slack's own Connect guide says people in the channel can see messages from bots and apps, and can exchange messages with a bot that has been added. Put the send gate in writing before you install anything in a Slack Connect channel. How to run an agent in a shared client channel is on using an AI agent in a Slack channel shared with a client.

Claude Tag is off in Slack Connect until an Owner or Claude Tag admin sets guest-channel access to Channel only. Once it is on, Respond automatically is on by default, and a guest can talk to Claude by mentioning it or by replying in a thread it is already in. Lindy waits for approval on writes in shared Slack threads, with Always allow; those Approve and Deny buttons post in the thread, and guardrails do not apply in DMs. Viktor is review-first on sensitive sends, and that gate can be loosened. Slack's Slackbot page says agentic actions get human-in-the-loop approval; Slackbot in Channels is still an early pilot. Concrete has no auto-send mode: a person taps Send, or nothing goes out.

The quieter failure is a client ask that nobody owns. A helpdesk gives the thread an owner and an SLA. A teammate keeps the promise made on the call. Pair them if you need both. Overnight coverage is a different split, on how agencies keep client Slack answered after hours. A send-gate teammate is on an AI assistant that drafts replies and waits for approval. A later chase of an unanswered client ask is on the follow-up teammate page.

Questions people ask

Do I need a paid Slack plan to put an AI teammate in a client channel?

Yes. Slack's Free plan only allows one-to-one external messages. Shared Slack Connect channels with a client sit on Pro and above. Pro is $7.25 per user per month billed annually as of 13 October 2026. Conversation summaries ship with Pro. Slackbot, the personal agent, is on Business+ at 15 messages per member per week.

Does Claude Tag work in a Slack Connect channel with a client?

By default, no. Anthropic's docs say Claude is off in Slack Connect, and a mention gets no reply and no notice. An Owner or Claude Tag admin can turn it on by setting guest-channel access to Channel only. Access stays channel-only. Respond automatically is on by default, and guests can talk to Claude.

Should an AI teammate reply to a client in Slack without a person tapping send?

Most agencies treat an unsupervised client reply as the failure that costs an account. Slack says people in a Slack Connect channel can see messages from bots and apps. Claude Tag's Respond automatically is on by default. Lindy waits for approval on writes in shared threads, with Always allow. Concrete has no auto-send mode.

What is the difference between an AI teammate in Slack and a Slack helpdesk?

A Slack helpdesk such as Pylon, Thena, or ClearFeed turns shared-channel messages into tickets with owners, SLAs, and queues. An AI teammate sits in the channel and drafts, looks things up, or runs work across apps. A ticket logs the ask. A teammate tool keeps the promise made on a call. Many shops need both.

How do Lindy and Viktor bill a small agency?

Viktor bills the workspace from $50 a month for 20,000 shared credits, with no per-seat charge. Unused plan credits roll over one month. Lindy bills every active user from $29.99 a month for 3,000 credits, pooled, with no monthly rollover. An @mention in Slack takes a Lindy seat after a 7-day trial.
