Comparison
Claude Tag vs an AI employee in Slack for an agency
Claude Tag is Anthropic's @Claude in Slack on Team and Enterprise: usage-billed channel work, no extra Slack seat, and it may reply on its own when Respond automatically is on. An AI employee for an agency is a hire in the existing client Slack channel that drafts replies a person still sends and keeps follow-ups after downtime. Pick Claude Tag for internal @Claude. Pick the employee when send cannot fire without a tap.

What the split actually is
Claude Tag is Anthropic's @Claude in Slack on Team and Enterprise: usage-billed channel work, no extra Slack seat, and it may reply on its own when Respond automatically is on. An AI employee for an agency is a hire in the existing client Slack channel that drafts replies a person still sends and keeps follow-ups after downtime.
Agencies run the second job in Slack Connect channels shared with a client. Slack has no native owner on a thread, so a 9pm ask can sit while three people each assume someone else replied. People in that channel can see messages from bots and apps. Shared channels sit on paid Slack plans on both sides. The Free plan only allows one-to-one external DMs. Pro is $7.25 per user per month billed annually, or $8.75 billed monthly, as of 10 October 2026.
Claude Tag occupies the assistant you add to Slack when those Team or Enterprise seats are already paid. The buying prompt collapses that with a send-gate hire in the client channel. Those are neighboring jobs. Catch-up already in Slack is on Slack AI vs a dedicated teammate. Priced options for client Slack live on the AI tools roundup. The send gate itself is on the approval-before-send page.
Which job each one wins
Each row names the job, the product that wins it, and why. Claude Tag still wins the rows it actually wins.
| Job | Wins it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Already on Claude Team or Enterprise, @Claude in internal channels | Claude Tag | Claude Tag puts @Claude in Slack. Public beta. Channel work is usage-billed, with no extra Slack seat. Slack users do not each need a Claude seat to tag it in a channel. |
| Channel memory and standing instructions in internal Slack | Claude Tag | Memory belongs to the channel. Say remember for this channel. Anyone there can correct the note. Workspace notes from public channels are read in every channel in the workspace. |
| Scheduled routines and channel watching in internal Slack | Claude Tag | Routines run on a schedule, a watch, or a pull-request subscription. They use that channel's connections. They do not run in Slack Connect. |
| Catch up on a dropped client thread, with nothing else to run | Slack AI | Conversation summaries ship with Pro. They land for the person who asks, not as a bot post in the shared channel. |
| Tickets and SLAs on Slack Connect | Thena | Thena is a Slack-native B2B helpdesk: tickets, SLAs, and CSAT. A ticket logs the inbound ask. It does not, by itself, keep a promise made on a call. |
| Work across connected apps from Slack | Lindy | Lindy is a Slack-native teammate with 1,500+ integrations and approvals built in. The head-to-head is on Lindy vs an AI employee. |
| A draft a person must approve, and no auto-send mode | Concrete | Send / Edit / Skip cards in existing Slack channels. There is no auto-send mode. Design-partner preview; see what it is. |
| Follow-ups that survive downtime, plus a rule from a verdict | Concrete | Follow-ups survive reboots. Each morning it nudges the owner of every open task or ask. A person's approved, edited, or rejected verdict becomes a written rule. The longer thesis is on the vision page. |
What Claude Tag is, from its own pages
Claude Tag is Claude in Slack. An Owner pairs the Slack workspace with the Claude organization, sets a spend limit, adds Claude to channels, and launches. Anyone in a channel Claude is in can then tag @Claude, with no per-user setup. It is public beta on Team and Enterprise. It is not on Free, Pro, or Max. The earlier Claude in Slack app switched over on 3 August 2026.
Adding Claude to Slack does not add a per-seat Slack charge. Channel, thread, and group DM work draws from a funded usage balance, under a spend limit an Owner sets. Team plans have no usage balance until it is funded, and Claude will not reply in channels until it is. There is no published per-task cost. Reading a channel, deciding whether to reply, and short replies from what Claude already knows bill nothing. A working session it starts from the channel is billed. One-to-one DMs from a member who has connected a Claude account bill to that seat.
An @-mention guarantees a reply. Respond automatically is on by default, so Claude may also reply to a message nobody tagged it in. In Slack Connect the default is Restrict: it does not answer, and it posts no notice. An Owner can set Channel only. Then it answers with no memory, no workspace search, no org instructions, and no routines. People from the other company can talk to it. Everyone in the channel can read what it posts. Guests cannot approve a tool request. Claude cannot post into a Slack Connect channel from another conversation.
In a one-to-one DM, posting to a public channel waits for Approve and post. That gate is not on every outbound in a client thread. Channel work stays visible to everyone in the channel. A quiet checklist can look frozen because Slack does not notify on edits.
What the AI employee job is for an agency
The agency job is not an assistant you tag in an internal channel. It is a hire in the channel the client can already see. The owner is still the account manager for most clients. Hiring another account manager often costs more than one client brings in. The failure they name first is an AI that talks to the client unsupervised: one wrong reply can cost the account.
That hire has to mark the 9pm ask as seen, draft a reply a person still sends, keep the promise made on the call, and not repeat a correction. Slack has no native owner on a thread. Channel history hides thread replies unless you open them. A catch-up that reads only top-level messages drops the actual ask. Safety of putting an agent in that channel is on the shared-channel page. Overnight coverage is a different split, on how agencies keep client Slack answered after hours.
Concrete is an AI employee that works in existing Slack channels. Every incoming message gets a receipt mark. Drafts land as Send / Edit / Skip cards, and there is no auto-send mode. Follow-ups survive reboots. Each morning it nudges the owner of every open task or ask. Verdicts become written rules. It starts from a ready-made role, then adapts. It is in design-partner preview. Learning from a rejected draft is a neighboring job, on the corrections page. The later chase of an unanswered client ask is on the follow-up teammate page.
The caveat that should decide the shortlist
The failure mode agencies name first is an AI that talks to the client unsupervised. Operators on Reddit say the same for Slack and email: keep send out of the automation, because a fluent wrong reply in someone's voice borrows their authority. Approve the exact text that will post. A prompt that says ask first is not the same gate.
Claude Tag replies in the thread you tagged. Respond automatically is on by default, so it may also reply on its own. In Slack Connect, Restrict is the default and posts no notice. Channel only turns it on with no memory and no routines, and member messages can still trigger an automatic reply until you turn that setting off. Guests can read the post. Guests cannot approve a tool request. Approve and post is a DM-to-channel gate, not a send tap on every outbound in a client thread.
A second caveat is public chase. A reminder or a draft posted in a Slack Connect thread is visible to the client. Keep the nudge off that thread. A third caveat is spend. Team must fund a usage balance before Claude replies in channels. There is no published per-task cost. The spend limit counts usage at list price and stops the thread when it is reached. Pair Slack AI for catch-up. Pair a helpdesk when inbound volume needs tickets and SLAs. Pair the employee when send cannot fire without a tap.
What each one costs (October 2026)

| Tool | Published price | What that buys |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Team Standard | $20 per member per month billed annually; $25 billed monthly; minimum two members | Claude Tag is included in beta. Channel work is extra: a funded usage balance under a spend limit. No published per-task cost. |
| Claude Tag channel work | Usage-billed to the organization's balance; no extra Slack seat | Team must fund the balance before Claude replies in channels. Reading, deciding, and short replies from what it already knows bill nothing. A working session is billed. |
| Slack Pro | $7.25 per user per month billed annually; $8.75 billed monthly | Slack Connect shared channels, conversation summaries, and huddle notes. |
| Lindy Team | From $49.99 per user per month for 5,000 credits; $50 free credits for 7 days, no card | Slack-native teammate, 1,500+ integrations, approvals built in. Every active user is billed. Credits do not roll over. |

| Concrete | No public price | Design-partner preview. An AI employee in Slack with Send / Edit / Skip; it never sends on its own. |
A practical setup for a 3-to-30 person shop
This is the boring version that holds when the owner is still the account manager for most clients. Pin it in the internal channel, not after the first unsupervised reply.
- Name the job. Internal @Claude is Claude Tag. Catch-up is Slack AI. Tickets and SLAs are a helpdesk. A send-gate hire in the client channel is a different product. Fund the leak you actually have.
- Start with the Claude plan you already pay for. Team or Enterprise. Channel work needs a funded usage balance and a spend limit before launch. Adding a per-seat agent on top of that is a second bill for every person who @mentions it.
- Name the gate. Send is a tap on the exact text. Edit rewrites it. Skip drops it. Respond automatically, or Approve and post from a DM, is a different setup.
- Keep client-facing send on the gate. Lookups, summaries, and internal tags can run. Anything the client will see waits. If Claude Tag is on in Slack Connect, treat automatic replies as on until you turn Respond automatically off.
- Keep drafts off the shared thread. People in a Slack Connect channel can see bot messages. A public chase shows the client you are chasing your own team. Missed messages in that channel are on how agencies stop missing client messages.
- Sweep threads in the morning. Channel history hides thread replies unless you open them. A catch-up that reads only top-level messages drops the actual ask. A recap of yesterday is not that list; that split is on the daily-summary page.
Questions people ask
Does Claude Tag reply in a Slack Connect channel with a client?
By default, no. Restrict is the default: it does not answer, and it posts no notice. An Owner can set Channel only. Then it answers with no memory, no workspace search, no org instructions, and no routines. Guests can read what it posts. Guests cannot approve a tool request. Public beta on Team and Enterprise.
Can Claude Tag send a client reply without a person tapping send?
Yes, if it is on in that channel. An @-mention guarantees a reply. Respond automatically is on by default, so Claude may also reply on its own. Channel only in Slack Connect still lets member messages trigger that. Approve and post is only for posting from a DM to a public channel.
How much does Claude Tag cost for a small agency?
Channel work is usage-billed to the organization's balance, with no extra Slack seat. Team Standard seats are $20 per member per month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly, as of 10 October 2026. Team must fund a usage balance before Claude replies in channels. There is no published per-task cost. Concrete has no public price.
Should an agency replace Claude Tag with an AI employee?
Only if the leak is a send-gate hire in the existing client channel, not @Claude in internal Slack. Claude Tag wins internal tagging, usage billing, channel memory, and routines you already pay for. Slack Connect is off by default. A recap or a tagged task is not a draft waiting for send. Many shops keep both.
Does Claude Tag remember a correction in a client Slack Connect channel?
No. When Claude answers in Slack Connect it has no memory, including that channel's own. In an internal channel, say remember for this channel and anyone there can correct the note. That is a saved instruction, not a verdict that becomes a written rule overnight.

If your team already runs its work in Slack, start with one role in one channel. Concrete is an AI teammate that works in your Slack channels and asks a person to approve before anything goes out. It is not a chatbot builder, and it never sends on its own.
