What is the best AI employee in Slack for a founder who cannot hire a chief of staff yet?
There is no single best AI employee in Slack for a founder who cannot hire a chief of staff yet. Slackbot wins catch-up if you already pay Business+. Claude Tag wins @Claude in internal channels when Team seats are already paid. Lindy and Viktor win work across connected apps. Bond wins a personal chief-of-staff list in Slack. Pick by the job the founder is dropping, then by what is already on the card.

How a founder should pick
For a company of about 5 to 50 people, best is the AI employee that matches the job already leaking in Slack: catching up on channels, doing work across connected apps, keeping a personal list of commitments, or drafting a follow-up a person still sends. A hire with no named job becomes another inbox.
The founder is the bottleneck. Asks, decisions, and "I'll send that tomorrow" pile up in Slack, Gmail, and Calendar. A human chief of staff still wins judgment, people, and priorities. Levels.fyi puts median U.S. chief of staff total compensation at $180,000, from 52 reported salaries, updated 26 October 2026. That is the hire a shop this size cannot make yet. The paid-hours workaround is a virtual assistant. Magic lists a Virtual Assistant at $360 a week for 40 hours, and an Executive Assistant at $540 a week, on its standard four-week billing, as of 26 October 2026.
Asana's Anatomy of Work Index, which surveyed over 10,000 knowledge workers, found they spend 60% of their time on work about work, including chasing the status of work and switching between apps. The same index found the average employee uses 10 different apps every day, and 88% agree that time-sensitive projects and large initiatives have fallen behind or through the cracks. Knowledge workers spend about 28% of the workweek on email, roughly 11 hours, according to the McKinsey Global Institute, so a Slack promise often has a twin in Gmail.
Start with what you already pay for. Slackbot is bundled in Business+. Claude Tag is usage-billed on Team and Enterprise, with no extra Slack seat. Adding a per-seat agent on top of that is a second bill for every person who @mentions it. The commitments job across Slack and email is on the chief of staff software page. The agency-owner version is on the chief of staff page for agencies. A morning list of still-open asks is on the daily summary page.
The six employees
Six products that can sit in Slack as an employee or teammate. Concrete is last because it is ours.
- Slack AI. Native conversation summaries ship with Pro. Slackbot, Slack's personal AI agent, ships with Business+ and Enterprise+; Business+ caps Slackbot at 15 messages per member per week. Daily recaps ship with Business+.
- Claude Tag. Claude Tag puts @Claude in Slack on Team and Enterprise, in public beta. Channel work is usage-billed, with no extra Slack seat. Default in Slack Connect is Restrict: it does not answer, and posts no notice. Respond automatically is on by default.
- Lindy. Lindy is a Slack-native teammate with 1,500+ integrations. Anything with outside impact waits for approval, and Always allow exists. Setup docs say it works in DMs and shared channels, and keeps answers public-safe there. Team starts at $29.99 per user per month for 3,000 credits; every active user is billed.
- Viktor. Viktor is a Slack-native agent billed per workspace, from $50 per month for 20,000 credits, with 9,800+ integrations and no per-seat charge. Unused plan credits roll over one month. Sensitive actions wait for an approval button in Slack, unless the team loosens that gate. New workspaces get up to $100 in free credits and no card.
- Bond. Bond is an AI chief of staff for executives: a prioritized list, automatic follow-up, and commitment tracking. $49 per month for individuals. 10,000 credits free to start. It lives in Slack. It drafts follow-ups while you stay in control of what gets sent.
- Concrete. Concrete is an AI employee that works in existing Slack channels. Drafts land as Send / Edit / Skip cards; there is no auto-send mode. Follow-ups survive reboots, and a person's verdicts become written rules. It is in design-partner preview. The longer thesis is on the vision page.
Which employee wins which job
Each row names the job, the product that wins it, and why. These six do different work. Neighboring hires sit on the table so a recap, a transcript, and a follow-up stay separate jobs.
| Job | Wins it | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Catch up on Slack channels, with nothing else to run | Slack AI | Conversation summaries on Pro. Slackbot, the personal agent, is on Business+ at 15 messages per member per week. Daily recaps ship with Business+. Catch-up is on Slack AI vs a dedicated teammate. |
| Already on Claude Team or Enterprise, @Claude in internal channels | Claude Tag | No extra Slack seat. Channel work draws from a funded usage balance. It does not work in Slack Connect unless an admin turns it on. The split is on Claude Tag vs an AI employee. |
| A Slack-native teammate billed per seat, with approval on outside impact | Lindy | Anything with outside impact waits for approval. 1,500+ integrations. Team from $29.99 per user per month. Always allow exists. Guardrails apply in shared Slack threads only. The head-to-head is on Lindy vs an AI employee. |
| One shared employee across thousands of tools, billed per workspace | Viktor | From $50 per month for 20,000 shared credits. 9,800+ integrations. No per-seat charge. Unused plan credits roll over one month. Sensitive actions wait for approval in Slack unless loosened. |
| A personal AI chief of staff list in Slack | Bond | Bond is a prioritized list, automatic follow-up, and commitment tracking. $49 per month for individuals. Lives in Slack. Drafts while you stay in control of what gets sent. |
| Catch the owner's promises across Gmail, Slack, and calls, then draft | readywhen | readywhen catches commitments in connected email, calls, chat, and docs, then drafts the recap or chase. Nothing goes out until you say so. It does not watch the rest of the team. Start free; connectors page still says join the beta. |
| Notes and action items after a call | Fireflies | A visible notetaker joins the call. Fireflies Pro is $10 per seat per month billed annually, or $18 billed monthly, as of 26 October 2026. It wins the transcript. Prep before the meeting is on the meeting-prep page. |
| Judgment, people, and priorities | A human chief of staff | A person still decides what matters this week, who to push, and what to drop. Software tracks open loops. Levels.fyi puts median U.S. total compensation at $180,000 from 52 salaries. A virtual assistant is the paid-hours version of the same gap. |
| A follow-up that survives, a morning list of what you owe, a person still sends | Concrete | Reads Gmail alongside Slack. Each morning it nudges the owner of every open follow-up. Send / Edit / Skip cards; a Gmail send needs the same tap. No auto-send mode. Design-partner preview; see what it is. |
What each one costs (October 2026)
Every figure below is from the vendor's own pricing page, read 26 October 2026. Quote-only stays quote-only. Concrete has no public price. For a shop of ten, per-seat teammates bill ten times; a workspace bill stays one line. Published meters for Viktor and Lindy are on how much Slack AI employees cost.
| Tool | Published price | What that buys |
|---|---|---|
| Slack Pro | $7.25 per user per month billed annually; $8.75 billed monthly | Conversation summaries. Slack Connect shared channels. Slackbot is a preview on Pro, not a weekly allowance. |
| Slack Business+ | $15 per user per month billed annually; $18 billed monthly | Slackbot at 15 messages per member per week, daily recaps, and the rest of Slack's advanced AI. |
| Claude Team plus Tag | Standard seats $20 per member per month billed annually, $25 billed monthly; Tag is usage-billed | Team requires two members. Channel Tag work draws from a funded usage balance under a spend limit. No extra Slack seat. Public beta. |
| Lindy | Team from $29.99 per user per month for 3,000 credits; $50 free credits for 7 days, no card | Every active user is billed. An @mention in Slack takes a seat after a 7-day trial. Top-ups $10 per 1,000 credits. Monthly credits do not roll over. 1,500+ integrations. |
| Viktor | Team from $50 per workspace per month for 20,000 credits; up to $100 free credits, no card | No per-seat charge. Unused plan credits roll over one month. 9,800+ integrations. Slack and Teams. Pricing FAQ: 40,000 credits is roughly 80-400 tasks; a quick Slack question might cost 50-100 credits. |
| Bond | $49 per month for individuals; 10,000 credits free to start | Self-managing to-do list, automatic follow-up, and commitment tracking. Available in Slack and iMessage. Enterprise is custom. |
| Concrete | No public price | Design-partner preview. An AI employee in Slack with Send / Edit / Skip; it never sends on its own. |
The caveat that should decide the shortlist
The failure founders name first is an AI that sends the follow-up on its own. Telling it to draft only is not a send gate. Worst case with a draft is you delete it. Worst case with auto-send is you explaining the email on Monday. readywhen waits for your OK. Lindy waits for approval on anything with outside impact, and Always allow exists. Guardrails apply in shared Slack threads only, not in Slack DMs. Viktor asks for confirmation before sensitive actions such as sending email, and that gate can be loosened. Bond drafts follow-ups while you stay in control of what gets sent. Concrete has no auto-send mode: a person taps Send, or nothing goes out.
A human chief of staff still wins the call on people and priorities. Software tracks open loops. A homemade agent that logs promises only in chat will drop them; the line has to live on a list that survives a reboot. Slack says Slack AI saves its pilot customers an average of 97 minutes per user a week, by its own internal analysis. That is time saved reading, not loops closed. A recap can mention "I'll send that tomorrow" and still leave Friday empty. Slack To-dos are a personal list. Creating a to-do does not set a reminder by default.
A meeting recorder wins turning a call into notes and action items. Write a promise said only on the call into Slack or email before the call ends if you need it on the same list. Claude Tag may reply on its own when Respond automatically is on. Email-only chase is a neighboring setup, on how to stop forgetting emails you promised. Concrete is an AI employee that works in existing Slack channels and reads Gmail alongside them. It keeps every promise made in a thread, and every thread waiting on a reply, as a follow-up. Each morning it nudges the owner. It drafts the follow-up as a Send / Edit / Skip card in Slack. A Gmail send needs the same tap. Follow-ups survive reboots. It starts from a ready-made role, including Chief of Staff. It is in design-partner preview; the longer thesis is on the vision page. It does not record meetings, and it does not replace a chief of staff.
Questions people ask
Can an AI employee in Slack replace hiring a chief of staff?
No. Software tracks open loops and drafts the next step. A human chief of staff still wins judgment, people, and priorities. Levels.fyi puts median U.S. total compensation at $180,000 from 52 salaries. The tool is for shops where "I'll send that tomorrow" leaks in Slack.
Does Slack turn "I'll send that tomorrow" into a follow-up?
No. Slack To-dos and reminders fire when a person sets them. Hover a message and pick Add to-do, or type /remind. Creating a to-do does not set a reminder by default. Daily recaps ship with Business+ and summarize what you missed. The spoken line is not a follow-up until something keeps it.
Should an AI send a founder's follow-up without a person tapping send?
A wrong send to an investor, customer, or teammate is the failure that costs the relationship. readywhen waits for your OK. Lindy waits for approval on outside impact, with Always allow. Bond drafts while you stay in control of send. Concrete has no auto-send mode. A person still sends.
How do Lindy, Viktor, and Bond bill a 10-person company?
Viktor bills the workspace from $50 a month for 20,000 shared credits, with no per-seat charge. Lindy bills every active user from $29.99 a month; ten people who @mention it are ten seats. Bond is $49 a month for an individual. Slack Pro is extra at $7.25 per user per month billed annually.
Does Claude Tag keep promises across Gmail as well as Slack?
Claude Tag puts @Claude in Slack on Team and Enterprise. Channel work is usage-billed, with no extra Slack seat. It is an assistant in the channel. It does not, by itself, keep a Gmail promise on the same list. Slack Connect is off by default, and a mention there gets no notice.

If your team already runs its work in Slack, start with one role in one channel. Concrete is an AI teammate that works in your Slack channels and asks a person to approve before anything goes out. It is not a chatbot builder, and it never sends on its own.
