What's the best way to remind hiring managers in Slack when they owe candidate feedback?

The best way to remind hiring managers in Slack when they owe candidate feedback is a private daily nudge to the named person who still owes a scorecard or a debrief, plus a candidate update on the date you already named. A Slack /remind only fires if you remembered to set it. An ATS scorecard email lives in email. A public hiring-channel ping can leak candidate status.

What the job actually is

The best way to remind hiring managers in Slack when they owe candidate feedback is a private daily nudge to the named person who still owes a scorecard or a debrief, plus a candidate update on the date you already named. I'll get back to you Friday in the debrief is not a reminder, a Slack to-do, or a rejection until something else happens to it.

The desk is usually one to three recruiters or coordinators at a Slack-first startup. Candidates live in email and the applicant tracking system. Hiring managers live in Slack. On r/recruitinghell, a candidate who followed up a week after the hiring manager interview and again three weeks later got the same reply both times: I'm still waiting for feedback from the hiring manager. A recruiter on r/recruiting treats 24 hours after the panel as the chase window.

Ashby's 2026 Recruiting Operations Benchmarks, covering more than 54 million applications and 93,000 jobs from January 2021 through March 2026, put scorecard completion around 49% at companies under 25 employees, and closer to 72% at 500 or more. Completion is higher for hired candidates than for people who will be rejected, so the card on a no is the one that sits. Interviewed candidates take 21 days on average to archive. That window is the leak.

The buying prompt collapses four jobs: a reminder you remembered to set, an ATS scorecard email, a Slack ping that keeps firing until the card is in, and a later note a person still sends the candidate. Closing the loop with the candidate is a neighboring job, on how in-house recruiters stop ghosting candidates after interviews. Which method wins which job

Fund the row that matches the leak. A hand-set Slack reminder, an ATS scorecard email, and a candidate-facing note are neighboring jobs.

A scorecard due email you cannot turn offGreenhouseEvery interviewer gets a Scorecard due email one hour after the interview, then daily for up to 10 business days. Greenhouse cannot deactivate that email. Slack is extra, and only if the interviewer turned the integration on.

A Slack /remind is a time you picked

Slack's current help is exact. /remind #channel what when posts the reminder in that channel at the time you chose. Remind me about this attaches a due date to a message you already have open. Both are a clock you set. I'll get back to you Friday in the debrief does nothing by itself.

Creating a to-do does not set a reminder by default. To-dos are personal. The hiring manager does not get your list. A channel reminder is visible to everyone in that channel. Guests cannot create one. Default delivery for a day-only reminder is 9am in your timezone.

Operators on r/Recruitment book a 15-minute scorecard review with the hiring manager after every interview and call it out at intake so it is an expectation. Others paste a 30-second hire / no-hire TL;DR in Slack before the debrief. Those are still a time someone remembered to put on a calendar. Promises typed in a Slack thread are a neighboring job, on the commitments-from-threads page.

The ATS ping is the scorecard, not the candidate

Greenhouse's scorecard reminder is the always-on email. One hour after the interview ends, then once a day for up to 10 business days, or until the scorecard is in. Custom timing can start at 1 hour, 3 hours, or end of day, defined as 6pm in the interviewer's timezone. Follow-ups can run daily, every 2 days, or every 3 days. Greenhouse cannot turn the email off.

Slack on that ping is optional. The interviewer has to enable the Slack integration. Greenhouse strongly suggests Slackbot, a private DM. You can pick only one channel. Greenhouse says a public or private channel can show candidate status, approval status, or other notifications to people who would not see them in Greenhouse. Basic users can only enable scorecard reminder messages on jobs where they are scheduled to interview.

Ashby can send feedback reminders by email, Slack, or both. Slack notifications are off by default. If feedback is required on the interview, those reminders cannot be switched off per user. On 29 September 2026 Ashby said interviewers can complete the full feedback form from the Slack reminder, and recruiting teams can send a reminder from the candidate profile by email, Slack, or both. Ashby Assistant in Slack is the later action: submit feedback, add a note, or draft an email from a DM, with a Confirm button. Hiring managers already run debrief threads in Slack. The form is what used to force them back into the ATS.

None of that emails the candidate. Greenhouse's 2025 Workforce and Hiring Report, a survey of 2,200 candidates in the US, UK, and Ireland, found 63% were left in the dark after interviews, 78% among Gen Z. Greenhouse's 2022 Candidate Experience Report, a survey of over 1,500 employees and job seekers, found almost 58% expect to hear back in one week or less on the initial application, and over 70% want feedback on an interview. Name a date at the end of the panel. Send that update even when the scorecard is late. The no can wait for the card. The silence cannot.

The caveat that should decide the setup

The failure hiring managers name first is a public nag. A scorecard reminder in #hiring can show candidate status to people who should not see it. Greenhouse says so in the Slack integration notes. Ashby can open a private interview channel per candidate that archives when they are hired or archived. Keep the chase in a DM or that private channel.

The failure recruiters name first is an AI that emails the candidate on its own. After a panel, a wrong send is expensive. They may still be in play for another role. The first-choice offer may not be signed. Greenhouse lets you delay the rejection email. Ashby Assistant in Slack previews an email with a Send button. A prompt that says draft only is not a send gate.

Keep the jobs split. The ATS still wins the pipeline, stages, and the scorecard form. Slack still wins a reminder you remembered to set. Concrete is an AI employee that works in existing Slack channels. The Recruiter role, with Gmail and Calendar, keeps every I'll get back to them Friday as a follow-up that survives, nudges the hiring manager who owes feedback each morning, and drafts the candidate note as a Send / Edit / Skip card. There is no auto-send mode. Follow-ups survive reboots. It is in design-partner preview; the longer thesis is on the vision page. It does not source candidates, and it does not connect to LinkedIn or an applicant tracking system. Drafting with a send gate is a neighboring job, on the approval-before-send page. A promise typed in email is on how to stop forgetting emails you promised.

Step by step: the setup for a 1-to-3 person talent desk

This is the boring version that holds when the recruiter still owns every later reply and the hiring manager still owes the scorecard. Pin it in the internal hiring channel, not after the first candidate emails asking where they stand.

  • Step 1: Name the leak. A hand-set Slack reminder, an ATS scorecard email, a Slack form, and a candidate-facing note are different. The ATS covers stages. The recruiter job after an interview is the later reply until a person sends.
  • Step 2: Turn on the ATS Slack ping as a private DM. Greenhouse: enable Slack notifications on scorecard reminders, Slackbot as the channel. Ashby: turn on overdue feedback in Slack; Slack is off by default. Aim for the scorecard inside 24 hours. Ashby measures that window at 66% without AI Notetaker and 70% with it.
  • Step 3: Name a date at the end of every interview. Tell the candidate when they will hear back, and write that date down as an owned follow-up the same hour. Greenhouse's 2022 survey is the bar: 58% expect a week on the application, and over 70% want interview feedback. Send an update on that date even if the decision is not ready.
  • Step 4: Chase the hiring manager in private. Ping the named owner in a DM or a private interview channel. Do not post candidate status in a public hiring channel. A 15-minute scorecard hold after the interview, booked at intake, is the calendar version of the same chase.
  • Step 5: Send the candidate the delay on the date you named. Approve and the invite is owed. Decline and the rejection is owed. Waiting for the first-choice offer to sign is a status note. Ashby's 21-day archive average after an interview is too long to wait with nothing said.
  • Step 6: Keep send as a tap on the exact text. Draft the note. Send stays a tap. Always allow, Auto, or a prompt that says draft only is a different setup. A person who sat through a panel is not a bulk auto-reject.

Questions people ask

Does a Greenhouse scorecard reminder in Slack update the candidate?

No. Greenhouse scorecard reminders ping the interviewer by email, and in Slack if they turned the integration on. They fire one hour after the interview and daily for up to 10 business days. The candidate is not on that ping. Someone still has to mark Reject and choose to send.

Should I remind a hiring manager in a public Slack hiring channel?

Keep it in a private DM or a private interview channel. Greenhouse strongly suggests Slackbot because a channel ping can show candidate status to people who should not see it in Greenhouse. Ashby can create a private interview channel per candidate that archives when they are hired or archived.

How soon should a hiring manager submit interview feedback after a panel?

Aim for 24 hours. Ashby's 2026 benchmarks measure scorecard submission inside 24 hours, at 66% without AI Notetaker and 70% with it. Recruiters on r/recruiting treat 24 hours as the chase window. Ashby's Feedback Submission SLA alert fires when feedback is delayed more than 2 days.

Does Slack /remind keep chasing a hiring manager until the scorecard is in?

No. Slack /remind posts once at a time you picked, or on a recurrence you set, in a channel. To-dos are personal. Creating a to-do does not set a reminder by default. An ATS scorecard reminder keeps firing until the card is in or the stop rule hits.

Should I wait for the hiring manager's scorecard before telling the candidate anything?

Wait for the scorecard before you send a no that quotes the panel. Send the candidate the delay on the date you already named. Greenhouse's 2022 survey found over 70% of job seekers want interview feedback, and almost 58% expect a week on the initial application.

Can an AI email the candidate when the hiring manager is late with feedback?

After a panel, a wrong auto-send is expensive. They may still be in play for another role. Greenhouse lets you delay a rejection email. Ashby Assistant in Slack previews an email with a Send button. Concrete drafts the note as a Send / Edit / Skip card and has no auto-send mode.
